Lecture, four hours; discussion, one hour. Comparative study of major literary texts and their adaptations into different forms of public spectacle, including theater, opera, and film. Works by Goldoni, Gozzi, Mascagni, Verga, Puccini, Pirandello, Calvino, Ortese, Zavattini, de Sica, and Taviani Brothers. Emphasis on development of ideas of spectacle. P/NP or letter grading.
